Season 1, Episode 32
We left the town of Labrador Falls where Rex the dog had become a local hero. He had been given credit for saving the life of his owner, David Jenkins. Mr. Jenkins had been in the hospital and was dying. Krystal Sullivan was a nurse at the Labrador Falls Regional Hospital.
It was Krystal who brought Rex to the hospital to see his owner. She had not expected to save the man’s life but that is basically what happened. The man responded to his dog being there by making a complete recovery. There had been stories in the news on television.
The next day, the morning paper carried a big story as well…
Season 1, Episode 31
Last time we met, we saw an exhausted Krystal Sullivan leaving the hospital with her dog Fantasia. She had just pulled off a minor miracle by bringing Old Man Jenkin’s dog, Rex to the hospital to see the old man on his deathbed. The effect that Rex had on the dying man saved his life.
The hospital was buzzing with news of the miracle dog and the wonderful act of thoughtfulness on the part of Nurse Sullivan who came up with the idea that saved the man’s life. The dog was treated as royalty and allowed to stay with the Mr. Jenkins.
Krystal and Fantasia had gone home where Krystal was trying to go through the last 24 hours in her mind. It was an absolute blur of activity and seemed to her as if it had all started weeks ago. She looked in the refrigerator for something to eat. She couldn’t find anything but gave Fantasia and extra big bowl of food.
Season 1, Episode 30
Last time we visited, David Jenkins lay dying in his hospital bed. Krystal Sullivan took it upon herself to take the man’s dog, Rex to the hospital to see his owner one last time. Krystal entered the hospital and was told that the man had been moved from the CCU to a room on the second floor.
Krystal dashed up three flights of stairs with Rex by her side. They got to the room that Mr. Jenkins was in. The poor man was all alone on his deathbed. Rex quickly recognized his owner and began to wag his tail. Krystal watched the heart monitor beat periodically with old man Jenkins’s ragged heartbeat.
What happened next was impossible to define in the annals of Labrador Hills Regional Hospital lore. The man who had been left for dead seemed to be responding to his dog. The dog put his front feet on the bed and began licking the man’s hand.
Season 1, Episode 29
When we last visited, we found Krystal Sullivan, driving her convertible back to town on the freeway, going well beyond the speed limit. She had decided she needed to get back to Labrador Falls as quickly as possible. Paying no attention to the posted speed, she zoomed back to the city.
At the Johnson house, young Preston Johnson answered the doorbell and found what he thought to be a solicitor at the front door. She appeared to be out of breath and in a hurry. She was dressed funny. Preston was curious enough to listen but he was not going to buy anything.
“Hi, you must be Preston,” the woman said. Preston was shocked to find that the strangely dressed woman knew his name. “Are your parents here? It’s really important!”
Season 1, Episode 28
Last time we met, Krystal Sullivan had asked to leave the hospital to be alone with her thoughts. She had left behind a dying man whom she knew would spend his final hours alone and frightened. The guilt consumed her but she tried to be strong by telling herself she did everything she could do that was within her power.
She and her yellow lab, Fantasia, drove out of town. The summer sun was starting to make it nice and warm. Krystal decided to put the top down on her convertible and try to get away from the sad situation at the hospital. She would distance herself, both figuratively and literally.
Soon she was ten miles out of town on a quiet country road. Things were peaceful out here and Krystal felt she had done the right thing. She could have stayed at the hospital and finished her shift, but she would have been going through the motions and the day would have seemed endless.
Season 1, Episode 27
On our last visit, we were at the hospital where Old Man Jenkins lay dying in the Critical Care Unit. Krystal Sullivan had just reviewed his chart and discussed his situation with one of her fellow nurses. Jenkins had been admitted with an injury to his shoulder but his condition had taken a turn for the worse.
Apparently he had an allergic reaction to some of the medication he had been given. His temperature had spiked and remained dangerously high. His white blood cell count was also alarmingly high. Basically he was a dying man.
There was discussion of notifying next of kin. However they were having difficulty finding any family he had locally or even any relatives outside the area. Krystal was numb as she watched the heart monitor.
Season 1, Episode 26
When we left the last time, we were inside the Labrador Falls Regional Hospital where patients involved in the traffic accident the night before were recovering. Krystal Sullivan was a nurse who worked at the hospital and had checked in for her normal day of work.
She had been out yesterday with her dog, Fantasia. They had gone to the dog park and stopped when they reached the accident last night on their way home. By coincidence, Krystal had helped both of the accident victims.
She had just checked up on the young woman, Chelsea Baker, who was resting comfortably on the 5th floor. She was about to make her way down the Critical Care Unit on the basement floor. She had a feeling that something was not quite right with David Jenkins.
Season 1, Episode 25
Last time we looked in on the sleepy town of Labrador Falls, we found life returning to normal after a surprise thunderstorm. The morning was bright and fresh after its bath last night. There had been a traffic accident that involved some of our dog friends.
Krystal Sullivan was working at the hospital where she was a nurse. She had looked in the hospital records for the two accident victims she had helped with last night. She found where Chelsea Baker’s room was. Chelsea had broken her arm and was on the fifth floor.
When Krystal did not see David Jenkins on the list of patients in the general pop (population) she looked at the list of patients in the Critical Care Unit (CCU). She was taken aback briefly when she found his name among the patients on this list.
Season 1, Episode 24
The night finally came to an end in the city of Labrador Falls. The evening’s events included a gathering of many dogs at the Labrador Falls Dog Park, including a dog fight (Samson) and an announcement of impending motherhood (Chloe).
Then came the surprise rainstorm about the time the park was ready to close. On the way home there was a bad car accident that caused an injury to one of the dog owners (Old Man Jenkins).
Season 1, Episode 23
Last time, we were at the Johnson house and things had gotten chaotic until peace was restored. Three dogs came charging into the house from outside. Two of the dogs belonged to Al and Sandy Johnson and the other belonged to Old Man Jenkins from next door.
A fourth dog was added to the mix when Krystal Sullivan went to her car and brought in her yellow lab, Fantasia. All four dogs had been at the dog park earlier that night. Now they were all in the Johnsons’ back yard.
“So, Rex. Tell us all about the accident,” said Tillie. Tillie and Rex were the dog equivalent of boyfriend and girlfriend. Although Rex lived right next door, there was a fence between them so they really only got to spend time together when both were at the dog park.
