There are a handful of things that I am afraid of and the vacuum cleaner is one of them. I don’t know why it’s there and I don’t want to. That instrument is capable of terrible things I cannot imagine. Every once in awhile, Dad pulls that beast out of the front closet and does something that makes it go crazy.
I’m not sure what he does but the vacuum has a really long tail and Dad takes it by the end and sticks it into a plug in the wall. It must not like that very much because it starts to make this howling noise that sounds like a freight train.
Of course I run as far away as I can, which is only to the bedroom. I then stick my head underneath the bed. I would crawl in and hide my entire body but I’ve gotten too big to get all the way underneath. I’m safe for a little while but then the sound gets closer and louder. I can hear Dad fighting with it. It has a really strong nose and it sniffs every square foot of carpet in the whole apartment. (I thought that was supposed to be my job!)
After about ten minutes or so, Dad has moved it from the living room to the kitchen. Then it starts coming to get me. It’s pure torture to hear that thing getting closer to me, getting louder and louder. I can see Dad struggling to pull it back every time it makes a surge forward but it must be too strong for him because it keeps coming after me.
Another nice day. Another bike ride. Yes, we had a really good time on our bike ride. We even got to go to the dog park again. No complaints there because I had a really good time.
The highlight of our bike ride came on the way home when we stopped at Quinn’s Pond right on the greenbelt and I got to chase a few tennis balls that Dad threw into the water. Now in a dog’s eyes, that’s some serious fun!
Just like the other day, I carried a tennis ball in my mouth all the way home. I even got to say hi to my friend, Gus again. His humans had taken him for a walk on the greenbelt so we stopped and sniffed each other.
Click to see a short video of me bringing back a tennis ball.
It was really nice out yesterday so Dad and I went for a walk on the greenbelt. Our apartment is cool because it’s only a short walk to the greenbelt, which runs parallel to the Boise River. The path is paved so Dad can walk or ride his bike. Today we walked.
We got as far as the second bridge going west which is less than a mile. We weren’t really out for serious exercise. Dad just wanted to go outside because it was so nice out.
Yesterday was nice enough to take a bike ride to the dog park. Dad (That’s what I call my pet human, Mike) put the harness on me and away we went. He said his broken arm hurt a little bit but I promised not to do anything crazy to make him hurt it more.
It was 60 degrees and mostly sunny. Perfect weather for a bike ride, though I honestly prefer it a little cooler. But that’s just me. I’m sure Dad was happy and would have liked it even warmer.
This Kong would taste a lot better with some peanut butter!
Well, I’ve struggled a bit, as might be expected since it’s really hard to type with paws! But seriously, I have not had the easiest go of things. First I discovered that the website I thought I had submitted came out differently. I wanted CharlieTheDog.com and discovered it was actually CharleTheDog.com. No way to determine if I made the mistake or not. As they say, it is what it is.
I feel like I’ve had to work like a dog just to get this far. I guess that’s good since I am a dog. But even if I were a human, it would feel like I’ve worked like a dog. I don’t think I’ll have any interesting things to talk about myself this time. I just wanted to get that first blog out there and let everyone know I’m here. I promise lots of interesting stuff in the future!
